Calcinate, May 15, 2025 – This week ended a self-defense course held by professional instructor Juri Ambrosioni, which Italtrans launched on a trial basis, covering all costs, for female employees at its administrative headquarters.
The initiative was launched on International Women’s Day as a practical and useful tool to help manage incidents of aggression, unpleasant situations that, as we read too often in the news, can unfortunately happen to all women. The aim of the course was not to train martial arts experts in a few sessions, but to provide real and immediate tools for dealing with potentially dangerous situations, thanks to in-class simulations and working in pairs. Recreating real-life assault scenarios allowed participants to gain greater awareness, which is useful in avoiding becoming paralyzed by fear or acting inappropriately, if not harmfully, in dangerous situations.
The course consisted of six themed sessions, each lasting one hour, covering carjacking, i.e., attacks when getting in and out of the car, standing and ground defense, and even extreme situations, such as knife attacks. Not only were techniques demonstrated, but practical advice was also given on how to recognize and try to avoid risky situations.
The participants, around forty in total, welcomed this proposal with great enthusiasm. In addition to being educational, the lessons also provided an opportunity to share experiences of discomfort or fear that many women can relate to in their daily lives, such as travelling alone at night.
Juri Ambrosioni comments on the initiative: “In all my years of experience, this is the first time I have been asked by a company to hold a self-defense course. I would like to thank Italtrans for promoting this initiative. Knowing that you have a chance, even if you are not successful, can make all the difference and save your life in the event of an attack.”
Laura Bertulessi, CEO of Italtrans, states, “A course may not protect us from every attack, but it has certainly given us valuable insights into how to behave in the event of unpleasant situations.”
