2023 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT

Italtrans, artificial intelligence to reduce emissions

Revenues are holding up, services are increasing (with the expansion of the so-called “last mile” and investment in home delivery), and corporate awareness and responsibility regarding the social and environmental impact of its operations are growing.

This data comes from Italtrans’ fifth sustainability report for 2023. The Calcinate-based company, an Italian leader in logistics and transport, is continuing along the path it embarked upon in 2019 when, as CEO Laura Bertulessi explains, “there was still no obligation for companies like ours to draw up a report and present their organization and processes in a transparent manner, particularly with regard to social and environmental responsibility.” Now, in view of European regulations, the obligations are becoming more stringent, and getting started early has allowed the company to already be on the right track.

In fact, analyzing its own work and measuring it in relation to the objectives of the UN 2030 agenda has now become not only a habit for Italtrans, but above all a duty towards its partners, the community and society in general, as well as a reason for continuous internal improvement. The sustainability report also includes the financial statements of two subsidiaries: Mazzocco Srl and G.B. Trasporti SpA.

What happened in 2023? Revenue stood at 460 million, reflecting a job well done and consistently appreciated by customers and partners. Investments in technology were consolidated, with over 10 million spent on Logistics 4.0, and clean energy production was increased (the already impressive photovoltaic park was expanded to reach a production capacity of 24MW).

As regards the fleet, investment in vehicle renewal has continued, and a project is underway that uses artificial intelligence to improve tractor monitoring and efficiency. The “Cojali system” allows remote diagnosis of the vehicle fleet, taking preventive action on possible risk situations and improving safety. It can also collect valuable information on driver performance and driving style, with the aim of achieving a significant reduction in fuel consumption (up to 10% while driving and up to 5% in route planning) in order to reduce environmental impact.

The 2023 financial statements also report investments in staff, training, and safety, not to mention the activities promoted by Italtrans for the direct benefit of the local area (including support for the important events I Maestri del Paesaggio and Christmas Design).

“During 2023, we grew as a company not only in terms of revenue but also in terms of our overall sense of responsibility, which guides us in our daily activities.” Laura Bertulessi is pleased with the results achieved thanks to the commitment of everyone who works at Italtrans, but she is also well aware that the challenges will be even greater in the coming years. European regulations and, above all, the environmental emergency demand ever-greater responsibility, but, she concludes, “our company is made up of women and men who are capable of rolling up their sleeves and doing their part. Together and with passion.”
